Building On Faith
For 50 years, six old brown cabins have heroically housed campers in all
seasons, though they were built with a lifespan of approximately 25 years. While
many wonderful memories will be long cherished, the cabins are no longer
adequate. TLCC is in desperate need of new lodging for youth and families.
These cabins have become a liability as they continue to deteriorate, offering
less comfort each year. Twin Lakes Christian Center wants to be an effective
ministry tool for kingdom building. The proper facilities are critically
important.
Since 1956, Twin Lakes Christian Center (TLCC), a nonprofit retreat center, has
helped people learn to become effective Christian disciples and servants to
their communities by providing creative programs in a natural, historical and
intentional environment. A year-round camp and retreat center open to youth,
adults and families, TLCC is home to a century-old farmhouse, the Pomeroy
railroad depot, Swede Bend Church built in 1861, the nationally registered
Charles Knapp round barn and a variety of other buildings and features honoring
the site’s agricultural heritage. Harvest Hall, a new multipurpose building, is
finished with used barn lumber and whole logs. Farm artifacts, quilts and
historic memorabilia are displayed throughout. The waterfront has a wide variety
of both summer and winter recreation options ranging from waterskiing and
sailing to our 100 foot toboggan chute that sends campers halfway across the
lake.
While the majority of programming at Twin Lakes Christian Center is for youth
campers from kindergarten through 12th grade, accommodations ranging from cabins
to private rooms are available for family reunions, family camps and adult
groups during every season.

In order to provide comfortable housing for campers throughout the year, two
lodges will be constructed to house 60 campers each and solve our immediate need
for adequate accommodations. Each lodge will replace the cabins with five
12-person units that can be converted into ten family units. Design decisions
have been driven by the functionality of space and the durability of materials.
Key features in each building will include:
-
Bathrooms with showers and
on-demand hot water heaters.
-
Two lounge areas for groups and
family gatherings
-
Two large porches, situated for
sunrise and sunset
-
Year-round climate control
In the fall of 2006 the board
approved the sale of one of the camp-owned houses and designated the proceeds
toward this project. This enabled work to begin on the south lodge in November.
While completion of the south lodge in 2007 will improve the housing situation,
construction of the north lodge awaits funding.

The Building on
Faith Capital Campaign officially kicked off in March. As of May 2007 there is
100% participation from staff and Board! With theproceeds from the sale of a
small piece of property and pledges to date, we are starting the campaign with
$250,000 toward the goal of $700,000!
We are asking for
you to prayerfully consider how you can be a part of building on faith. Together
we will trust our faithful God to build His kingdom. Please will you:
-
Pray for God’s
provision and what part you might play.
-
Make a
pledge—together we can make this happen.
-
Tell others why
you love and support this ministry.
On behalf of all
the campers this summer and for years to come, thank you very much!
