Triathlon

The 5th Annual Half-Olympic Distance Triathlon was held on Saturday, August 6. Seventy individuals and fifteen teams participated in the USAT-sanctioned event. Registered triathletes ranged in age from 14 – 76. They were from 5 countries: USA, Australia, Belgium, India, Switzerland; from 8 states: AR, IA, IL, KS, MN, MO, NE, WI; from 33 towns in IA and 10 towns in MN. There were 29 athletes from Fort Dodge and the surrounding communities of Manson, Pomeroy, and Rockwell City.

Taylor Huseman, 19, Manson, was the overall male winner with a time of 1:04:55. This was the second fastest finish time in the five years of the Twin Lakes event. Second place winner was Karl Larsen, 19, Decorah, 1:06:56.

Holland Smith, 14, St. Joseph, MO, won the overall female division with a time of 1:15:33 edging Audra Carlson, 23, Winnebago, IL, by 11 seconds.

The team competition was won by a trio of Fort Dodge boys, Colin Pearson (swimmer), Keaton Williams (biker), and Josh Willwerth (runner) with a time of 1:10:09. Second place team was also from Fort Dodge: Jaime Pearson (swimmer), Lynette Pearson (biker), and Krista Thompson (runner) with a time of 1:10:41. Both of these times were better than all of the previous times in team competitions from 2007-2010.

The Twin Lakes Event Planning Committee would like to express their thanks to the 100+ volunteers and our growing number of generous sponsors: Brown’s Shoe Fit, Pathways Centers, Twin Lakes Marina, Decker Truckline, Josephson Mfg., Northwest Bank, Gunderson Funeral Home, Shimkat Motors, Aramark, Pocahontas Pharmacy, Gadbury Plumbing, Champion Chrysler, Nikolangelo Restoration, RelaxStation, Kemna Auto, Acree Chiropractic, Fort Dodge Trisport, HyVee Drugstore, Jensen Builders, Kemna Auto, Calhoun County Public Health, Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, Newell Farms, Jerry Black family, Jim & Ann Rodenborn, and Dr. William Morton.
